New: 2023 KTM SX models –

Like any racer, we look for profit, performance and perfection in every corner. 2023 The KTM SX models will reshape market and equestrian expectations. We have not changed our approach to direct expertise, so that means we have changed a lot for 2023.

We still have 12 models ranging from electric leather bikes to two-stroke mini (50, 65, 85cc) to larger two-strokes with 125, 250 and 300cc displacement. The KTM SX-Fs consist of 250, 350 and 450 four-strokes. A potential AMA 450SX winner or MXGP World Champion can grow in orange as a top-level winner from his or her first yards in the sand through the final few corners. So we have the engines, but why jump in the family? Why embrace KTM DNA? Well, the KTM SX models are the most powerful in each class and have the best parts. They are the most race-oriented. Racing teaches us to give you strength. The 2023 KTM SX models are slimmer, more controllable, the most desirable. They are our best expression of the ultimate motocross ‘race’, so we are ready for when you want to get really serious.

Behind the door: Preparation and equipment
We are the industry leader in using groundbreaking ideas and technology across our motorcycle range, and the 2023 KTM SX models are ready. Partnerships with companies like Keihin, Pankl and Brembo mean expanding performance. The 2023 KTM SX series will rely on 2 mappings (one standard, softer and linear force and another for more aggressive response), launch control *, traction control *, a roll-over sensor for large crashes, hour meter as standard with electronic fuel injection status and a fuel indicator via the Keihin engine management system. Other initial steps come through the toolless adjustments now possible with the latest spec WP Suspension engineering. The new 7.2 l polyethylene fuel tanks can be filled (and supplied by the one-piece protected fuel pump and filter), and a quick turn of the Excel alloy wheels is faster and easier to control thanks to the new spoke “nipple” design. You are ready to race.

The gate falls and leaps
With the electric starter (on all models), the KTM SXs rumble straight ahead, through the turns and over the jumps. Our engine packages are more compact, more durable, easier to service and offer the best power-to-weight ratio across the board.

New cylinder heads translate into performance gains, but rearward rotation of the engines by 2 degrees has resulted in better centralization and a more profound effect on the chassis concept. Brand new Pankl Racing Systems 5-speed transmissions and an additional 4-stroke sensor make shifting (from 2nd gear) smoother thanks to the Quickshifter function. The quickshifter can be disconnected with a switch on the handlebars, but a weight-optimized shift shaft in the transmission itself means that the activating force of the shift is now smaller and therefore lighter. A hydraulic Brembo coupling ensures top-class reliability regardless of the conditions.

For our 2-stroke the following applies: fewer carburetors = more power. We have enriched our KTM SXs with a new electronic fuel injection to ensure simplicity, fun and uniqueness. That’s why the SXs get a new 39 mm throttle body with injectors placed for razor sharp response. A ‘remix to the premix’ relies on a TPS sensor for better idling behavior and for the fuel-air mixture (not to mention the cold start mechanism, which is the same as the KTM SX-Fen). The effect is ‘more’: more power, more response, more security, more convenience, more fun.

Find the flow and attack the circuit
The requirements for competition, fitness and track set the tone for any motorcycle race. It is in the depths of this hard, physical phase of a race that the tire and feel of a bike can make all the difference and take full advantage of the excitement and satisfaction. We have reduced our chassis and frame design principles to the core and strive for better dynamics, stability and strength. “Length stiffness” is key, and the highlighted equestrian feel comes from an “anti-squat” philosophy. This is achieved through a new frame and mounting points, subframe, swingarm, engine repositioning, ergonomics and WP Suspension technology.

The frame is hydroformed, laser cut and robot welded. The wall thickness has been optimized to achieve improved specific rigidity in high load areas, such as the headset and the all-new shock absorber brackets. KTM SX two-strokes have new, parallel frame brackets. The design is more sporty for extra maneuverability; example of this is the new foot pegs moved inwards for even more clearance in wheel tracks and to let the bike fall flat for springscrubs. The new footrests have an even larger surface, although they are lighter than before due to the injection molding. The rigidity has been improved with lighter hole-cast swingarms (new casting processes enable even greater weight savings) and a new rear axle.

The WP Suspension Xact shock absorber is shorter and lighter. The internal fluid flow is more even, reliable and resistant, and the smaller size of the shock absorber reduces the possibility of penetration of pollutants and dirt. The shape allows for greater ground clearance with the lift, and the advanced damping means better traction as the bike takes the shocks with the new geometry setup. When jumping or landing, any KTM SX can take full advantage of the WP Xact fork with Aer-air technology, which features a new hydrostop for more efficient performance and more ‘bottom’ resistance.

The 2023 KTM SXs are narrower and tighter, but we have managed to increase the contact area for even more influence on the bike’s handling. The flat orange seat – which offers excellent grip and a position that emphasizes more control – and the redesigned front fender are other recognizable features. The mudguard’s mudguards prevent excessive dirt from being thrown at the rider and radiator in particularly wet conditions.

Finish moto strongly
You have raced faster and longer than ever before, but any Pro racer will tell you that the last two or three laps of each moto are the most important. This is where the versatility and practical features of the new KTM SXs take even more trump cards. Energy absorption is high thanks to the forgiving chassis and other components, such as the new CNC-machined triple clamps with optimized handlebar mounts and a wider grip surface. This leads to less ‘twisting’ of the steering wheel. It’s all protected by a new license plate design. The subframe is now a beautifully designed hybrid thanks to polyamide-reinforced aluminum, which applies force in the lower part of the frame and increases the flexibility for control and comfort in the upper part. The subframe is designed with advanced finite element analysis and weighs less than two pounds.

Count on the last inches of traction and performance from Dunlop Geomax MX33 tires, selected after a careful testing and selection process for KTM’s SX line for 2023. Once you’ve crossed the finish line, it’s time to recover, reset and think the next turn. At this point, riders will consider some “upgrades” and this is where the included KTM PowerParts and KTM PowerWear will serve you. There is riding equipment, protection and extra parts and much more made especially for our 2023 KTM SX incarnations. Welcome to the future. But do not just take our word for it. A very special and exclusive video series will be released on KTM’s digital channels, which describe KTM’s 2023 SX series.
