Participation in the design Environmental Vision Uithoorn 2040 and design Vision Green recreation zone

UITHOORN, In recent months, hard work has been done on the preparation of the Uithoorn 2040 Environmental Vision. This vision for the future describes the municipality’s long-term goals. In addition to the design environment vision, the design area vision Green Recreational Connection Zone Uithoorn (GRZ) has also been prepared. On 24 May, the municipal council approved the draft Environmental Vision and this draft Area Vision. The municipality would also like to hear from residents, entrepreneurs and stakeholders what they think about these visions. From 2 June to 13 July, both design visions – together with the Horecavisie and Leisure and Tourism visions – are available for inspection at City Hall. You can also respond to the visions via https://uithoorndenktmee.nl Projects – Environment Vision and GRZ.

The municipality must comply with many laws and regulations for the design and use of the residential environment. All of these existing laws and regulations have been amended by the national government and have been merged into one new law: the Environment and Planning Act. An important step in this regard is the formulation of a new policy: an environmental vision and an environmental plan.

What exactly is the environmental vision?

Everything you see, feel, hear and smell, we call the physical living environment. These are, for example, buildings, traffic, ditches, rivers, meadows and clean air. How we organize the physical living environment is determined in the Environmental Vision. For example, Miljøvisionen helps us make plans for the future.

The environmental vision answers questions such as: what qualities in Uithoorn do we want to preserve and strengthen? How and where will we live, work and recreate in the future? How do we deal with new challenges such as energy production and climate change?

What exactly is the green recreational connection zone?

In 2021, the possibility of a green and recreational connection zone between Westeinderplassen and Amstel will be explored. To this end, the municipality has prepared an area vision, which provides guidelines for making concrete plans for this area.

Participation

The user of the living environment is central to the Environmental Act. Prior to an extensive participation process, the Uithoorn 2040 environmental vision and the area vision were therefore prepared.

During the participation week in October 2020, it was possible at different times and in different ways to contribute with ideas about Uithoorn 2040 Environmental Vision and the green recreational connection zone Uithoorn (GRZ). Proceeds from this week’s participation have also been incorporated into the document Towards the Uithoorn 2040 Environmental Vision, which was adopted by the City Council in February 2022.

In order to reach the visions, two more participation weeks were arranged in March and April. In different places and at different times, the residents could ‘color’ the future Uithoorn municipality with the help of a large sail. Various sessions and discussions were also held. This input has been incorporated into both design visions.
