Lightyear, the high-tech company that develops the world’s first solar car, today launched its production car: Lightyear 0. After six years of research and development, design, construction, prototypes and testing, this solar car will go into production this autumn. Motorists can drive for up to seven months without having to connect a car to an electrical outlet or charging station. Drove for several months without charging

Lightyear 0 is equipped with five square meters of patented, double-curved solar panels, which allow the vehicle to recharge itself during commuting, or when it is simply parked outside. Under optimal conditions, Lightyear 0 can thus supply itself with energy with a range of 70 kilometers per day, on top of the estimated WLTP range of 625 kilometers. Thanks to a yield of up to 11,000 solar kilometers per year, motorists who use Lightyear 0 for their daily commute (35 kilometers) can drive for months in the summer before needing a charger or socket; in climates like the Netherlands it will be two months and in climates like Spain or Portugal no less than seven months.

To push boundaries

Lightyear 0 reinvents the wheel in electric car architecture. Its four in-wheel motors make it the most efficient electric driveline available today. With an energy consumption of 10.5 kWh per At 100 kilometers (at 110 km / h), it is the most efficient electric car, and the record-breaking coefficient of resistance of less than 0.19 makes it the most aerodynamic family car to date. Right from the start, Lightyear has strived to develop a car that eliminates the strain on the planet and the motorist; therefore, minimalism, durability and comfort are taken into consideration in every design detail. The sleek dashboard features a 10.1 “touchscreen infotainment system that enables cloud-based updates, and the interior is made entirely of vegan and natural materials, such as eco-friendly seats in microfiber suede and details in the rattan palm.

Production of the Lightyear 0 will start in the autumn, and the first car will be delivered in November.
