The successor Nissan Micra 2024
Nissan continues the Nissan Micra, but for that it will rely even more on Renault than it already did for the current edition. The hatchback should arrive in 2024 or 2025. The electric version should be on the price list for under 30 grand.
This is indicated, among other things, by Guillaume Cartier, Nissan director of the European region. In conversation with the renowned automotive magazine Automotive News, the CEO talks about the Nissan Micra of the future. As you know, the new model will be a modified Renault. The bottom section partly shares the Japanese hatchback with, among others, the already announced Mégane, Scénic and 5, which also carry its own Ariya. The French division is responsible for the development of the new Micra, although the design department of the Japanese carmaker is closely involved.
Nissan and Renault partner for electric Micra
In an interview with Automotive News, Guillaume Cartier explains the choice for the collaboration. “When I visited Renault’s R & D center, I saw their cars. I saw the platform and some managers said: It would be great if we have more volume. I immediately replied with: Okay, but it must be in Nissan branded cars. After some consultations, we decided to go for the Micra replacement. It gives us the opportunity to have a fully electric compact car, which fills a large part of the market, as that segment still accounts for more than 20 percent of the total market in some countries. We alone are not big enough, but if we are two, the volume increases, and that gives a cost advantage. ”

Guillaume Cartier points out that Nissan needs an entry-level model: “From a marketing and customer point of view, Micra also gives another access to the brand, because you now also enter via an electric model. Without the Micra, the Juke is our smallest model. “
Customers of Electro-Micra
Asked by Automotive News what customers expect from a small electric car, Guillaume Cartier says: “You have two types of customers: One is a green-conscious, early adopter who is willing to pay a little more. The other is a more tax-conservative buyer who focuses on the total cost of ownership of the car. “
Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi overthrows Volkswagen
The new Micra is not the only Nissan co-production with Renault. The straps are tightened even more for the next generation. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance states that by 2025, around 50% of all models will be developed according to the mother-sister principle. This means that Renault is at the forefront of the development of new models for the European market.

The construction of the Micra successor will also be carried out by Renault. The French are currently setting up ‘ElectriCity’ in France to build clean electric cars. In 2030, the group will only make electric cars. The design of the newcomer is exclusive to Nissan, which will only sell the electrically powered Micra successor in Europe.
