Mini chooses a different design language, that’s what you can expect

Mini is pulling the curtain for a brand new studio model next month. The currently unnamed concept car will be a crossover with which the manufacturer will present the new design language for future types. Whether the survey model itself will go into production is not yet revealed by the manufacturer.

That the Mini is also on the verge of a complete transition is an open secret. The manufacturer turns the entire model range upside down and works towards a program with purely electrically powered models. The transition from internal combustion engines, whether via plug-in hybrid or not, to full electric propulsion will take several years. The British BMW subsidiary has been working on this new future for some time now. The brand states that it is not just the driveline in combination with a different design style. The car manufacturer approaches the whole concept differently.

Charismatic simplicity

The concept car, as it will be shown for the first time in July 2022, shows how Mini’s design department looks at its cars in the future. The business unit has come up with a fancy name for the brand new design language, Charismatic Simplicity.

“Signature styling is taking a huge leap forward with the all-electric next-generation model,” the automaker said. “Uncompromising reduction, digitization for an intense user experience, sustainability that runs through the Mini-DNA, maximum emotions with a minimum of footprint.” According to Mini, the principle behind Charismatic Simplicity is a design that helps each new Mini model develop its own strong character, intuitively focusing on the essence of the brand with a clear, reduced design language. Another key factor in the new design language is the choice of materials with a keen eye for sustainability. The next generation of Mini models has a leather-free interior and omits almost entirely chrome elements. ” mini future

How we are going to see it will therefore be clarified next month in the form of a concept car. The new design language was determined by BMW Group’s Design Manager Adrian van Hooydonk and Oliver Heilmer, Head of Mini Design.

Vehicle Architecture Mini

The vehicle architecture for the next generation of Mini models has been developed from the start for pure electric mobility. It entails a different way of thinking because, for example, the driveline is designed differently than an internal combustion engine with transmission. Although a battery pack takes up a lot of space – and it is heavy – the electric motor is more compact than the petrol motor. One of the recurring models is the 3-door.

BMW remains true to the Mini, but sees a different role for the English brand

The Mini also indicated earlier that a Cabriolet is on the way. In addition, a replacement for Landsmanden is planned. That model is growing relative to the current edition, so another crossover can be placed under the Countryman. The Mini also confirms that the successor to the current Countryman with an electric driveline will be available. This technical brother of the BMW X1 and iX1 is coming in 2023.
