Xiaomi unveils new Xiaomi 12S series. Three new devices are introduced: Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Xiaomi 12S Pro.
This product line is the first result of Xiaomi and Leica’s strategic collaboration in imaging technology. The entire range features image processing systems designed by Xiaomi and Leica, such as Leica Summicron lenses and Leica image profiles.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s primary camera uses an 8P aspherical lens to solve common shooting challenges such as flare, ghosting and chromatic aberration. Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s camera module also adds a layer of anti-reflection over the lens, an ink layer on the lens edge, cyclic olefin copolymer material and an infrared light filter with spin coating technology. Together, these features provide clearer images that are consistent across all lenses.
In addition to the optical design, the Xiaomi 12S series also uses Leica image profiles that adopt the age-old image processing and mimic Leica’s tone and appearance using cutting-edge algorithms.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra is equipped with Sony’s IMX989 1-inch sensor, which contains a pixel array of four layers and an individual pixel size of 1.6μm. After pixel binding, the pixel size becomes 3.2μm, which reduces noise, increases the dynamic range, captures more light and achieves better images in low light. This sets a new precedent for smartphone cameras and brings it closer to traditional cameras in terms of hardware specifications.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first Android device to support Dolby Vision HDR video recording and video playback. Dolby Vision enhances videos with vibrant colors, sharp contrast ratios and richer details, making image quality more vivid and refined.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra uses HyperOIS for ultra-stable performance and continuously compensates for movement while recording videos. HyperOIS utilizes the distance between two frames to direct the OIS motor to its original position so that each frame stabilizes completely.
Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro are equipped with Sony’s IMX707 as the main sensor, which contains both a large sensor size and large pixels, with 1 / 1.28 ”and 2 and 2.44μm post pixel binding. Xiaomi Al Image Solution and Xiaomi ProFocus allow these sensors to boot quickly and take pictures continuously. The two smartphones support an industry-leading 30 fps ultra-fast burst mode and exceptional shooting options in low light. Thanks to the All-scene snapshot, you can also capture every moment more easily.
The Xiaomi 12S series is also designed to be more photographer-friendly in post-production. The entire series supports 10-bit RAW files, calibrated by Adobe Labs, with color-correcting metadata integrated into the files. The Adobe Camera RAW software will automatically optimize the images opened in Adobe Lightroom based on the metadata, giving professional photographers a good starting point for post-production.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first flagship model to feature two proprietary Xiaomi Surge chipsets: the Xiaomi Surge P1 quick charge chipset and the Xiaomi Surge G1 battery management chipset. These offer major improvements in battery management and overall user experience.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra and 12S Pro have a 6.73-inch AMOLED color screen with E5 luminescent material. In addition, the devices have a maximum brightness of 1500 nits, 2K resolution, P3 gamma and 1-120Hz Apative Sync Pro. The Xiaomi 12S is a little more compact at 6.28 inches and also has a P3 color scale screen, HDR10 + and 120hz Adaptive Sync.
In addition to the Xiaomi 12S series, Xiaomi also announces Xiaomi 12 Pro Dimensity Edition, Xiaomi Book Pro 16, Xiaomi Book Pro 14, Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro and Xiaomi Home WiFi. More information on local launches and prices will follow.
