Summer excursions in Nieuw-West – Amsterdam municipality

It is summer. The school holidays have started. Many people spend their holidays in the city. And everywhere in the Nieuw-West there are things to do. There are many free activities for adults and children.

You can choose between sports and exercise, see and do art, play and sail. In the park, by the waterfront, in the neighborhood house, next to the museum and on the sports field. Many, many activities in Nieuw-West are free.

Playing in New West

Boat trip on Sloterplas

Sail with the (whisper) boat ‘het Rabootje’ and discover what Natureluur looks like from the water. You will learn all about waterfowl and coastal plants and other flora and fauna at Sloterplas.

Photo exhibition Our view of Slotervaart

Residents of Slotervaart exhibit self-made pictures of their neighborhood. They show what the neighborhood means to them and what makes Slotervaart something special. Photographer Karin van de Wiel accompanied them. The exhibition is part of the neighborhood initiative ‘Together for a Clean, Safe, Connected Slotervaart’. Resident Larissa Korporaal last year received a neighborhood budget for this exhibit from local residents.

Take action for someone else!

In one day, children ages 8 to 12 take action for another to make the neighborhood a little more fun. In a talent quiz, they discover what they are good at. Then they explore the neighborhood with other children and a tutor. Think of a bold action, prepare it and then get started.

Exhibition #herecomestheflod

With the photo exhibition #herecomestheflod, the artist Rem van den Bosch picturesquely shows how high the water rises when the dikes break. Artist Van den Bosch photographed recognizable places across the country. Vulnerable places or which are otherwise related to climate change and sea level rise. For the exhibition in Amsterdam, Van den Bosch also photographed places in our capital. The pictures can be seen on billboards next to the Van Eesteren Museum.

Dance in the house in the District de Aker

In the coming months, residents can meet, meet and dance. Resident Josine Taus is hosting her third Diner Dancing this summer. This is one of the plans from the neighborhood’s budget for New West. Every Sunday evening you are welcome to (free) Latin dance lessons and free dancing.

Construction playground Het Landje

At the construction playground Het Landje in Rembrandtparken, children can build cabins with wood, tools and cloth. During the school holidays there are activities: sports, crafts and cooking. There are also 6 ponies that children can learn to ride for a small fee.

Osdorp Summer Boulevard Osdorp

Today, the shores of Sloterplas have been transformed into a cozy, atmospheric and colorful market with activities and stalls from local residents, with art and curiosities, homemade goods and good food. The market shows what Osdorp and Nieuw-West have to offer. Osdorpse Zomerboulevard is a residents’ initiative and made possible through the Nieuw-West Neighborhood Budget.

Plays in the natural hour

De Natureluur is located in Sloterparken next to Børnegården. It is not just a playground, but a combination of play and learning in nature. There are exciting play equipment. ‘Paint a flyover’

Many people find the viaduct at Hemsterhuisstraat – Marius Bauerstraat deserted and gray. Together with New Metropolis, the neighborhood initiative Samen Slotervaart arranges 2 creative brainstorm sessions. People can contribute ideas about the design and help the artist make it. ESAN in the summer

It’s summer and quiet in the neighborhoods. But not at ESAN, the Energetic Seniors Nieuw-West group. The activities just continue there. Over 50s can participate in activities such as hiking, creative activities, coffee drinking and chat, reading clubs. Really many activities. To make you happy and to get energy from. Dyeing and weaving

Kunstrute Sloterdijk – Spaarnwoude Park

Cyclists can cycle a 21-kilometer route along works of art in the Sloterdijk area and Spaarnwoude Park near Halfweg. The cycle route passes Geuzenveld, Slotermeer, Gardens of West and De Bretten. The route is marked with chalk marks on the path. You can download audio stories to your phone.
