Time for a party! | Halsterse-Zuidwestkrant – The news from Halsteren and the Southwest corner

Halsteren has had a really nice tradition for children in the last week of the summer holidays since 1972, namely: The Grote Spellenweek of Stichting Kinder Vakantie Spel ‘Onder de Panne’. And that means, this year, it’s time for a party, because the foundation has been in existence for 50 years!!

For 50 years, a group of volunteers in Halsteren has organized a whole week of games, treasure hunts, rubber boats and adventures for children in the area. The volunteers are a very diverse group of people, young and old. Some have only just joined and some have been involved for many years, such as Toos Karremans, who has been involved from the start. But also other well-known faces, such as Bram de Vos, Paul Schut, Rob Ernest, Marjoleine Schut, Petra Alberts – Ernest, Yvette Franssen, Koen Jonkers, Dennis van der Weele, Timothy Jansen, Charlotte van der Weele and Diana Ernest. All have been very enthusiastic for decades, are active as volunteers, and they all want a nice party.

festival week

From Monday 29 August to Friday 2 September, all this awaits with many tasty treats every day. All children between the ages of 4 and 12 are welcome. It is not necessary to register in advance, so parents can bring their children without obligation. Every year “Great Games Week” has a special theme. This year, together with Professor Fixnix, the children look back on the past with the children’s holiday games, starting with fun traditional outdoor games, craft tasks and later cabin building, treasure hunting, etc. And as befits a birthday, there is a good treat. In other words, it will be a week full of fun.

Trip Drievliet almost full!

Every year, the Wednesday of Big Games Week is a day when two full De Kock buses take the children to an amusement park. On Wednesday 31 August, the buses go to Drievliet Amusement Park in The Hague. You must register in advance for this day. This year, the registrations again went very quickly from the first announcement. There are only a few places left. Register quickly via the registration form on the website www.kindervakantiespel.com, because FULL = FULL.

Children’s holiday game

The Children’s Holiday Games “Under de Panne” (KVS) organizes this Great Games Week for primary school children aged 4 to 12 years. The contribution per child is €3 per day, so it is not necessary to register in advance. During the day, the children play fun games in groups under the supervision of volunteers and are often given tasty treats. Drinks are served, children must bring their own drinking cup. The sandwiches for lunch must also be made by the parents and given to them.
The game week takes place in and around Halsteren. We therefore try to start each day at a different Halster location. From Fort de Roovere, De Beek, at ‘t Dorp to the Sports Park. Each and every one of them is a great place to experience outdoor adventures together.

Friday, September 2, the last day of the big week starts at 10 a.m. with the decathlon at Sportpark “De Beek”. This day will have extra air cushions (and in good weather also water play!). Please bring your child’s bathing suit and a towel this day! Furthermore, on Friday you will be spoiled extra with fritters with lunch. Sandwiches are therefore not necessary this day.

Bad weather?

Should the weather be rainy during the days, there will be an alternative program. There will be information about this at the registration point, Facebook and the website. In the event of a rainstorm, activities will continue outside. If this is the case, you can give your child rain gear or a poncho.

Volunteers at KVS

During the big week, the children are supervised by a group of more than 50 volunteers. It includes several first-aiders, traffic controllers and face painters, but also a number of people with an educational background. This is of course not a requirement. It is important that the volunteers work with enthusiasm and joy for the children. Each year these volunteers ask for a week off from work to help. And they do so with great pleasure, because they think it is very cozy at KVS. Helping at the KVS can also be done in different ways, in addition to guidance there is also, for example, a construction team. If you are interested in helping out at KVS, send an email to kindervakantiespel@gmail.com or call 06-199598275 (Paul Schut).

Any help is welcome

In addition to the many volunteers, “Great Games Week” is also supported by Bergen op Zoom municipality and many local organizations and businesses. The Children’s Holiday Games are extremely grateful to them for this. All this help and support makes it possible to make this game week even more fun and comprehensive!

In the coming days, the website www.kindervakantiespel.com will be further provided with all information for parents and children. But if you have questions, you can also contact us on 06-52151146 (Marjoleine Schut), 0619598275 (Paul Schut) or email: kindervakantiespel@gmail.com. Frequently asked questions

What should I give my child?
– A backpack or bag with:
• A drinking cup
• Sandwiches for lunch
• Any medication.
– Comfortable clothes that can also get dirty.
– Make sure your contact information is in your child’s bag.
• TIP: Place a sticker with your contact information on the drinking cup or lunch box.

What does it cost to participate?
Each activity costs just €3 per child. It is possible because there is a huge group of volunteers committed to the children. And the support from the Halstere entrepreneurs is also super valuable.

My child is taking medication, where should I report this?
You can specify this when registering. You can also write that on the registration form. The relevant group management and first aid will be informed.

My child is 3 years old, can he join?
The lower limit of 4 years is equal to that of primary school. This also has to do with cleanliness and independence of the child.

My child is 13 years old, can he join?
The games and activities are not intended for children over 12 years of age. But if your child still wants to experience play and activity days, your child can sign up to help as a youth leader. Otherwise, we warmly recommend the Lepelstraat youth camp. https://www.facebook.com/jongerenkamplepelstraat

What do you do when it rains?
We always try to keep our activities outside as long as possible. Should the weather be rainy during the days, there will be an alternative program. There will be information about this at the registration point, Facebook and the website. In the event of a rainstorm, activities will continue outside. If this is the case, you can give your child rain gear or a poncho and rubber boots.

My child is not from Halsteren, can he/she participate?
Yes, all children are welcome. Also from outside Halsteren.

Can I (parent) stay with me during the game days?
No, that’s impossible. The children are looked after and supervised by good volunteers. If your child is unable to ground themselves, we will contact you. Therefore, always make sure that you are available.
