This is what we think we already know about the iPhone 14 series | #branded content

Apple will introduce the iPhone 14 series on September 7. So just a little patience, but fortunately a lot is already known about the new smartphones. In this overview article, we put together the latest expectations.

What is interesting about the iPhone 14 series is that Apple – just like last year – is introducing four smartphones again, but not the same models. It seems very likely that the compact iPhone 13 mini will not get a successor. Instead, Apple would launch an iPhone 14 Max. That smartphone would be the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but lacks some Pro features and is therefore cheaper. In addition to the two large devices, expect a regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. They are expected to be the same size, with the Pro version getting better specifications and therefore a higher price.

It seems that the iPhone 14 series will be very similar to the iPhone 13 series in design. In particular, the iPhone 14 would almost be a copy of its predecessor. Although the iPhone 14 Max is new, it is very similar to the iPhone 14 (and therefore other iPhones) except for its larger screen. More changes appear to be on the way for the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Rumors and images created by websites claim that the two Pro devices are slightly thicker than their predecessors. Possibly so that Apple can place a larger battery. Smartphones also reportedly get slightly larger cameras for better pictures in the dark. That rumor is consistent with Apple’s official invitation poster, which hints at better night photography.

Interestingly, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are likely to get better displays than their predecessors. It is – again – OLED screens with a razor-sharp resolution, which can now for the first time show the time and other useful information in standby mode. This mode uses little power. The iPhone 14 and 14 Max do not appear to be getting a standby mode.

Another innovation is that the Pro models get a 120Hz refresh rate screen, which shows a much smoother image than the 60Hz screens in all other iPhones. An iPhone with a 120Hz screen would be a first for Apple. A limited one, by the way, because in the iPhone 14 and 14 Max you will probably find a 60Hz screen. Finally, the two Pro models would no longer have a notch for the selfie camera and Face ID. Instead, the screen may have a pill-shaped notch with the camera and a narrow bar for Face ID. Not all anonymous sources agree that this feature will debut in the iPhone 14 Pro (Max).

What most rumors agree on is that Apple will only put its latest A16 Bionic processor in the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. This processor is expected to be faster and more energy efficient than the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 series. However, the A15 chip would also be in the iPhone 14 and 14 Max. Apple would only give the Pro models the latest specs to make more of a difference between the iPhone 14 versions. It appears that all iPhone 14 models have 6GB of RAM and at least 128GB of storage. There are also versions with more storage memory. All iPhone 14 devices have a Lightning connection for charging and listening to music.

One good improvement seems to be a longer battery life for all four iPhone 14 models. Apple would put larger batteries in the devices. The devices can be charged – just like their predecessors – via the Lightning port, wireless Qi charger and magnetic MagSafe connector. Some rumors claim that charging via MagSafe on the iPhone 14 is much faster than on the iPhone 13, but there is no concrete evidence (yet).

According to many sources, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will no longer have a 12-megapixel camera, but a better 48-megapixel camera. On the iPhone 14 (Max) you will again find a 12-megapixel camera plus a wide-angle camera. In addition to the wide-angle camera, the Pro models also have a third lens: a zoom camera.

It is not yet entirely clear how expensive the iPhone 14 series will be. In recent years, the latest iPhone generation has invariably been as expensive as the previous one. So it is possible that Apple will stick with this strategy. Due to high inflation and increased production and transportation costs, it is also conceivable that Apple will give the iPhone 14 series higher suggested retail prices than the iPhone 13 series. According to the latest rumors, the two regular iPhone 14 models will be as expensive as their predecessors, with the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max being a hundred euros more expensive than the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.
