Hasselblad X2D 100C with three new XCD lenses

The new Hasselblad X2D 100C is Hasselblad’s flagship medium format mirrorless camera with a 100 megapixel CMOS sensor and improvements in image quality, focus, stabilization, responsiveness and storage.

With a 100 megapixel medium format back-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor with a built-in ISO of 64, the Hasselblad X2D 100C captures vivid color and detail. A 16-bit color depth combined with 15 stops of dynamic range enables the X2D 100C to capture highlights and shadows naturally. In addition, Hasselblad’s Natural Color Solution (HNCS) optimizes the colors to show them as authentically as possible.

Main functions

IBIS – Capture every moment with sharp focus

The X2D 100C features 5-axis, 7-stop, in-body image stabilization (IBIS) for capturing sharp handheld images. To better control the size and weight of the X2D 100C, Hasselblad has developed the most compact medium format IBIS solution on the market.

A 100 MP medium format sensor not only entails rich details, but also strict requirements for image stabilization in the camera. To keep the stabilization capacity high and the dimensions and weight low, Hasselblad had to develop its own customized stabilization solution. Adding a stabilization system while keeping the camera light and portable was a challenging task.

After hundreds of experiments and design changes, Hasselblad’s engineers succeeded in developing an ultra-small diaphragm motor. Hall sensors were placed in the engine, allowing the system to be even smaller in size. This development made the front of the IBIS system approximately 30% smaller than comparable products, and allowed the new IBIS system to fit into the compact camera body of the X2D 100C.

camera display

The X2D 100C’s 3.6-inch touchscreen provides a clear image, even in bright light, and can be tilted to different angles for a variety of shooting needs. It has a resolution of 2.36 million pixels, providing accurate, true-to-life colors. The new 1.08-inch color display on top shows camera status and shooting parameters.

The OLED viewfinder with 5.76 million pixels supports 1.0x magnification, which enlarges the camera image. The new electronic diopter adjustment ensures a personal and sharp view of the viewfinder. With a clear, bright field of view, focusing is precise and comfortable.

Reliable internal SSD storage with high capacity

High-quality imaging requires significant storage capacity. The X2D 100C is a first for medium format cameras: a built-in 1TB SSD with a write speed of up to 2370 MB/s and a read speed of up to 2850 MB/s. While more than enough storage is built in this way, additional storage can be added by using a CFexpress Type B card.

Thanks to its fast storage performance, the X2D 100C is capable of continuously recording 16-bit RAW images in Continuous Drive mode, providing a stable and reliable continuous shooting experience.

Fast and accurate focusing

The X2D 100C uses Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) to capture fleeting moments with astonishing sharpness. At the touch of a button, 294 PDAF zones, distributed over the surface of the 100-megapixel sensor, ensure fast and precise focusing.

A rich experience combined with traditional elegance

The X2D 100C has a faster shutter response and a shorter blackout time than its predecessor, so important moments are never missed again. Hasselblad’s user interface (HUI) is clear and optimized. Intuitive touch controls allow the user to simply slide and tap to access the most used functions.

The housing of the X2D 100C is made from solid blocks of aluminum alloy machined to sleek curves. The X2D 100C is rooted in the Scandinavian design of the X system, and it now comes in a new dark gray shade.

High-speed transmission for instant content sharing

The X2D 100C has a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port that supports a maximum transfer rate of 10 Gbps. And a 2.4/5GHz high-speed Wi-Fi connection provides a faster and more stable connection with less interference. Pair the X2D 100C with an iPad or iPhone via Wi-Fi to send full-size JPG/RAW images using the Hasselblad Phocus Mobile 2 app. This makes it possible to edit and export RAW images in high quality, making full use of the capabilities of HNCS.

Masterpieces can also be easily created and shared outside the studio. PD 3.0 fast charging and PD 3.0 chargers from other manufacturers are also supported, eliminating the need for the user to carry multiple chargers.

Three new XCD lenses for the Hasselblad X2D 100C

The latest generation of XCD lenses, the XCD 2.5/55V, XCD 2.5/38V and XCD 2.5/90V, are compact and lightweight, yet ensure Hasselblad’s top optical performance. A completely redesigned focus module also ensures faster and more accurate autofocus. The central shutter offers flash synchronization at all shutter speeds and is now even more compact.

Starting with the selection of high-quality glass, Hasselblad engineers carefully grind each lens part to perfect the optical quality and meet the resolution requirements of 100 million pixels.

The improved focus module uses a linear stepper motor and a lighter, smaller lens group for focus.

Hasselblad XCD 90V AF Ring

The control ring on the lens can be adjusted for quick access to favorite camera functions, making shooting more convenient and efficient. The ultra-small central shutter shoots up to 1/2000s and offers flash sync at all speeds.

Hasselblad XCD 2.5/38V

The XCD 2.5/38V wide-angle lens with low distortion, equivalent to a focal length of 30mm on a full frame, is suitable for shooting documentaries, street or landscape photography. Include more environmental detail in portrait shots, or take advantage of the soft bokeh effect from the large f/2.5 aperture to highlight the main subject against the background. The minimum focusing distance of the XCD 2.5/38V is only 30 cm, perfect for shooting food, products and other stationary subjects.

Hasselblad XCD 2.5/55V

The XCD 2.5/55V standard lens, which corresponds to a focal length of 43mm on a full frame, produces an image comparable to the human eye. This perspective, combined with the soft bokeh effect of the large f/2.5 aperture, makes this lens an excellent option for full- or half-length portraits and ideal for shooting documentaries, still life or everyday photography.

Hasselblad XCD 2.5/90V

Equivalent to a focal length of 71mm on full frame, the XCD 2.5/90V is perfect for close-ups or still life. The focal length in combination with a large aperture of f/2.5 creates a beautiful soft bokeh effect that emphasizes the subject.
