At the 2022 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), HP Inc. the commercial availability of its Metal Jet S100 solution. HP’s Metal Jet S100 solution accelerates innovative design and manufacturing and enables digital printing of mass quantities of quality parts. The solution is transforming industries and helping to scale up 3D metals for mass production.
The manufacturing industry has grown dramatically over the past decade and is currently estimated to be worth around $12 trillion. We are at the beginning of a fourth industrial revolution, driven by the accelerated growth of 3D printing and the opportunities it provides.

New HP Metal Jet S100
HP’s new Metal Jet S100 solution opens the doors to a digital reinvention of the global metal fabrication industry with a strong focus on end-to-end supply chain solutions in both software and hardware that are customer- and design-centric.
The Metal Jet S100 solution offers industrial manufacturing capabilities, an integrated workflow, and subscription and service offerings. The modular solution allows build units to travel between four different stations, meaning users can continuously scale to mass production of metals.

HP’s unique expertise and IP in thermal inkjet technology and latex chemistry provide advantages in cost, quality, productivity and reliability. HP’s thermal inkjet print head significantly improves print speed, product quality and repeatability. The advanced latex chemistry developed by HP provides significant benefits to the binder itself, enabling stronger green parts to be printed, eliminating the need for bonding and achieving industrial production quality.
The key benefits of HP Metal Jet technology are:
- Innovative new design: New geometries, density control and designs to lighten or consolidate metal parts push the boundaries of 3D printing.
- Improved finances for the customer: Process steps required to manufacture parts are shortened, while costs due to manual labor or complexity requirements are reduced, improving efficiency throughout the supply chain.
- Higher productivity: Binder injection can increase productivity tenfold, enabling layer-by-layer processing instead of dot process. Isotropic properties also require no post-processing and no support removal, and the use of metal powder is also more cost-effective than laser-based 3D printing powder.
- Higher resolution for better part quality: Powered by decades of industrial thermal inkjet technology advances, HP printheads redefine geometry and deliver high resolution and robustness, making mass-produced 3D metal parts a viable option for commercial production.

HP is also collaborating on mass metal fabrication capabilities with new partners and customers around the world, including Domin Digital Motionan innovative industrial company with a focus on hydraulic systems and valves, Lumeniuma startup developer of advanced rotary engines, and Schneider Electric. Schneider Electric is the global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation. This was not possible with conventional industrial manufacturing capacity due to the complexity of the shape and material. HP Metal Jet technology not only enabled the design of new power filters that reduced the impact of gas, pressure and heat in a more confined space, but also led to significant productivity gains and environmental benefits.
