Microsoft Surface Event Live Blog: All announcements will happen

Update

“A laptop is still the device of choice for people to get things done.”

Microsoft calls the screen on the Surface Laptop 5 new with Dolby Vision IQ. Unfortunately, there is no 120Hz refresh rate.

Surface Laptop 5 is up to 50% more powerful than Surface Laptop. 18 hour battery life too!

Interestingly, with this generation, Microsoft doesn’t seem to be offering the Surface Laptop 5 with AMD Ryzen options. Intel 12th generation U series chips.

The first is the Surface Laptop 5! Now with Intel 12th Gen, Thunderbolt 4 and a new Sage colorway! Still the same old design.

Panos Panay opens the show. He talks about how the Surface was designed so people can unveil the first device arriving today.

Trevor Noah describes a collection of various surface units from the last decade.

And the event begins! We begin with a short 10-year vision.

3 minutes!

We still have 20 minutes left! Expect Panos Panay to take center stage to open the event. Again, we expect a new Surface Pro, a new Surface Laptop, a new Surface Studio and a handful of accessories and apps/services. – Jack Bowden

The last big PC announcement we expect from Microsoft at this event is the new Surface Laptop 5! The rumors about this are very light, but we know that it is not expected to be a major departure from the Surface Laptop 5.

It will have Intel 12th gen chips inside, but strangely, for the first time since 2019, we don’t expect AMD Ryzen options. We can also see Thunderbolt 4 support and a new Sage colorway. – Jack Bowden

Another new device we can expect is the Surface Pro 9. What do we believe? Combined for the first time with both Intel and ARM chips. In the past, Microsoft reserved its ARM chips for a dedicated “Surface Pro X” line of devices, but this year may be the first year for Microsoft to integrate the Surface Pro X with the main Surface Pro line.

More rumors We suggest that the Surface Pro 9 will come in a number of new colors, including green and blue, in addition to the usual silver and black. Inside, you can expect Intel 12th generation chips and Microsoft’s custom SQ3 ARM SoC based on the Snapdragon 8cx Gen3. 5G should also be included in the Surface PC for the first time on an ARM model! – Jack Bowden

Surface Studio 2

One of the devices we expect to be announced tomorrow is the new Surface Studio, which I suspect will be called the Surface Studio 2+. We expect the 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11370H chip to be paired with NVIDIA RTX 3060 graphics for a big performance boost over the older Surface Studio 2.

It’s been four years since the Surface Studio was last updated, so many were hoping for an updated design. Unfortunately, it appears that this is not the case. The FCC report accidentally revealed the design and it is identical to the previous generation. – Zach Bowden

Up to date: Tuesday 11 October 2022

We expect things to kick off tomorrow morning with a recorded video stream before 8am. 10am and I will be here to cover all the equipment as advertised. For the first time since 2018, we expect an updated Surface Studio, an updated Surface Laptop and an updated Surface Pro.

The event marks 10 years of Surface, so we may even see something to commemorate the event. So check back here tomorrow for all the news! The event is expected to start at 10 am Dutch time. – Jack Bowden
