Wendy stinks in nice talk Mehmet: transfers 215,000 euros in Kees van der Spek: Fraudsters tackled

In ‘Kees van der Spek: Scammers Tackled’, this time we see Wendy, who has a family, when she meets Mehmet. They seem to have a bright future ahead of them, but things soon go wrong.

“He completely destroyed me”

Mehmet seeks a lot of contact with Wendy, and when he comes to Holland, they meet. The two begin a relationship and as a result the relationship with the father of her children ends. Wendy even meets Mehmet’s family and they seem to have a bright future ahead of them. During their relationship, Mehmet keeps asking for money. It starts small, but – as we often see in Kees van der Spek’s program – increasingly large amounts are asked for. “I need 5,000 euros for my daughter, so you have to transfer that. In such a convincing way,” says Wendy. Still, she transfers the money. “I was already so captivated by his stories and his attentiveness.”

Asking for money continues to grow. “Then the gentleman had seen an Audi A4. For 38,000 euros. I paid that.” Mehmet has good chats. He has seen a piece of land on which he wants to grow avocados. That way he would get the money back and transfer it to Wendy, but for that investment he needs money from his lover. So she transfers another 35,000 euros.

Wendy explains that the money is not his at all. “I borrowed this money from my parents. They didn’t know it was for him. So yeah, very stupid. I put my parents at a disadvantage with this.” Her parents are not as mad at Wendy as they are at Mehmet. “I was so in love, I didn’t even see what was happening,” says Wendy, as she explains what other large sums of money she has transferred. He completely wraps her up saying she doesn’t need anyone but him and his family. So contact with her own friends dwindles. “I only had contact with him.” In total, Wendy transfers around 215,000 euros.

When Wendy ends up in the hospital with a cyst in her uterus and is immediately operated on, she reads as soon as she comes out of the anesthesia that Mehmet is about to break up. When she asks for his money, he threatens to make her life miserable. Mehmet turns out not to be a boyfriend because when her ex-husband, who Wendy still lives with, goes to Turkey for a story, he sends Wendy pictures of a gun. It would be for her ex-husband. But Mehmet is not embarrassed and still asks Wendy for money. “Yesterday. If I wanted to transfer 750 euros.” She finally transferred money last week out of fear of Mehmet and his threats. “He completely destroyed me.”

Fortunately, Wendy has the support of her parents after she tells everything honestly. She feels very stupid afterwards but wants to share her story to save others from the same mistakes.

Kees goes to Turkey with Wendy. When they see him go outside, Wendy is already full. Along with someone from the show, supposedly a friend of Wendy’s, she visits her ex-boyfriend before confronting him. But it quickly turns out that Wendy is having a hard time both mentally and physically because she has to throw up when they are with him. He remains friendly but makes it clear that he is constantly following Wendy. They decide to meet the next day.

When they meet, Mehmet indicates that he wants to make a new investment. For this he needs another 150,000 euros from Wendy. Ridiculous. Time to intervene. Kees starts the confrontation. “Mehmet, can you still see yourself in the mirror?” Wendy also talks to him. “You completely destroyed me.” He denies. “You did!” she shouts as he walks away. According to the interpreter – and the security guard – Mehmet contacts his lawyer by phone. He once again denies that he destroyed Wendy. “You have,” shouts Wendy.

Wendy cries in the car. “It’s over. Finally.” Later, off-camera, Mehmet and Wendy make a deal. He would repay the money in stages of 10,000 euros. To date, however, he has only transferred 220 euros. “At this rate, he won’t finish paying off in 244 years,” reads the end of the program. Wendy has hired a debt collection agency.
