When Yamaha launched the very first R125 in 2008, Yamaha introduced advanced Supersport design and technology to the 125cc class for the A1 license. Setting new standards in thrilling performance, improved agility and rugged styling, this top-of-the-line bike was an overnight success – and to this day, it maintains its position as the first lightweight high-performance motorcycle.
Over the past 15 years, this iconic machine has been consistently developed to maintain its superstar status among performance riders seeking the ultimate competition motorcycle. Designed specifically for young and uncompromising Supersport riders at the beginning of their relationship with the R series, the R125 is still on the right track.
Every Yamaha Supersport has been developed with the same pure R-Series DNA that has made the flagship R1 dominant in World Superbike racing. This racing technology is also evident in the 2023 version of the R125, from the dynamic new body design to the Deltabox frame technology and the radially mounted front brake caliper.
With an instantly recognizable new look directly inspired by the R7, and featuring a connected TFT instrument panel, new electronics and a host of chassis refinements, the 4th generation Yamaha R125 gives every rider a taste of where the R/World takes him or her there. can bring her.
Latest R Series design
The R125 gets a completely new look that emphasizes its status as Yamaha’s ultimate lightweight Supersport and further cements the family relationship with the R Series that makes this bike so special.
A powerful new multi-function LED headlight sits centrally in the M-shaped nose and delivers brilliant low and high beam for excellent seeing and being seen. The ultra-compact dimensions and low weight of the headlight allowed the installation of a highly aerodynamic front fairing with R7-inspired LED contour lighting, giving the R125 a radical new “big-bike” look.
The more aggressive look, a new aerodynamic fairing and the redesigned ventilated tank sections that convey the feeling of a strong horizontal flow completely transform the appearance of the lightest Yamaha Supersport. This updated bodywork offers a totally coordinated and refined look that emphasizes the status of this best-in-class motorcycle as a premium high-performance 125.
R1-inspired 5-inch TFT screen
The new 2023 R125 has the very latest 5-inch TFT color screen, inspired by the flagship R1. There are two different graphic themes: the motorcyclist can choose the “Street” or “Track” theme depending on the conditions. The “Street” theme includes a central digital speedometer and a bare tachometer. At the bottom of the screen are a number of warning lights, including turn signals, high beam, temperature and more. The ‘Track’ theme is a more focused layout with a central lap timer with 25 lap memory and above it a bar counter rev counter – these give the rider important information when on a race track.
Both screen themes have a programmable toggle light at the top of the screen. The ‘Track’ theme also includes a programmable tachometer area, allowing the rider to customize the visuals to suit riding style and individual preferences.
Staying in touch is now even easier for R125 riders as the 2023 model is equipped with a Communication Control Unit (CCU) that enables smartphone connectivity. To activate this connection, the rider’s smartphone must first be paired with the vehicle via Bluetooth® via the free Yamaha MyRide app. Once the motorcyclist has paired a smartphone, the new 5-inch TFT display shows all notifications about incoming calls and text messages. Via the app, the motorcycle’s most important parameters can be tracked and checked.
Motorcyclists also have access to other information, including smartphone battery status, and in the event of a technical problem with the R125, the system can alert a Yamaha dealer or other contact chosen by the owner.
Traction Control System
For the highest level of confidence and control, the R125 is equipped with a Traction Control System. Together with the A&S clutch and the optional Quick Shift system, traction control ensures that the R125 rider feels in complete control, especially when accelerating at full throttle. The status of this switchable system is displayed on the new 5-inch TFT screen. If desired, this system can be turned off in certain situations such as circuit driving.
New R1-inspired upper triple clamp and handlebar switches
The overall feel and look of the R125’s cockpit has been taken to a whole new level with the new 5-inch TFT instrument panel and new R1-inspired high-performance triple clamp that captures the pure R-series DNA of the R125. motorcycle reinforced.
The clip-on handlebar is equipped with new R1-inspired ergonomic switches that allow the rider to intuitively control various functions, including the new TFT screen theme.
Pre-wired for Quick shifter
Each model in the Yamaha R Series is a true racing monster, inspired by the uncompromising spirit of the winning R1M and built with the latest race-developed technology. The 2023 model is pre-coupled to a Quick shifter, making it easy for the R125 rider to fit an original Yamaha Quick shifter system that allows seamless full-throttle upshifts for absurdly strong acceleration.
Michelin Pilot Street tires
The 2023 model is equipped with Michelin Pilot Street tires, developed to combine sporty handling with strong performance on wet and dry surfaces. The latest tread design provides an excellent balance between grip and wear. The combination of a 100/80-17 front tire and a wide 140/70-17 rear tire gives the R125 excellent grip and agile cornering.
