Following the announcement of two joint projects between the leaders of the motorcycle industry in wireless communication, which aim to eliminate intercom compatibility between different brands, key members came together to drive these initiatives. This took place at EICMA, the main motorcycle exhibition in Milan.
The new ‘Open Bluetooth Intercom’ (OBI) standard and ‘Universal Communication Solution’ (UCS) were launched earlier this year – with Cardo Systems, Midland and UCLEAR Digital as key brands for the consumer-oriented solutions.
Alon Lumbroso, Managing Director of Cardo Systems, said: “Over the past few years we have worked closely with representatives from Midland, UCLEAR and Sygn House with the sole aim of enabling riders around the world to enjoy using a communication experience the system to the fullest while driving. EICMA provided the perfect backdrop, as the world’s largest motorcycle trade show, to celebrate the milestones we have achieved so far and talk about future developments.”
Gabriele Torreggiani, Vice President of Midland Europe, comments: “Actively participating in this partnership makes us proud. The goal is important and sets competition between competitors aside. Together we guarantee a better riding experience for all motorcyclists. We do this through responding to their need for cross-device communication and open technology for all, without compromise and without limitations. A truly important innovation”
SK Hui, CEO of BITwave Pvt. Ltd and brand owner of UCLEAR Digital, states: “UCLEAR has supported the concept of the open Bluetooth intercom standard for many years because it is what our customers want and deserve. OBI enables seamless communication between brands and improves overall performance and reliability . Customers will enjoy more choice and less frustration. It’s just the right thing to do.”
Open Bluetooth Intercom (OBI)
OBI, an agreement between Cardo Systems, Midland and UCLEAR, is an industry-wide open Bluetooth intercom standard that helps overcome many of the frustrations experienced with traditional ‘universally connected’ devices, ultimately enabling a seamless Bluetooth – intercom connection across brands. be. OBI is already supported in the following 2022 lines by Cardo: Spirit, Freecom X and Packtalk line and is available for download as an over-the-air update.
Universal Communications Solution (UCS)
Cardo Systems, Midland, UCLEAR and Sygn House (owners of the B+Com brand) have announced an industry-wide solution for integrated helmet communication equipment – the ‘Universal Communication Solution’. This solution gives motorcyclists the freedom to choose and replace communication equipment without compromising fit or appearance. Like car manufacturers and car radio manufacturers have adopted universal sizes and mounts (DIN/Double DIN Standard). The Universal Communication Solution standardizes the size and shape of communication systems, enabling integrated mounting in new motorcycle helmets that comply with the new ECE 22.06 standards.
