Tijdschrift.nl – ‘I think it’s VERY EXCITING’

Katja Schuurman announced this summer that she is happily back in love after her two-year marriage to Freek van Noortwijk ended last November, despite still having a child together in 2020, daughter Coco. In July, Katja shared the first photo of her and her new boyfriend Niek Schrijvershof, 29, enjoying the Wildenburg festival with good friends. ‘With my friends, and yes, with my love!’, Katja wrote enthusiastically. In September, another corner of the veil was lifted when she further elaborated on possible future plans with her new lover. Niek lives in Ibiza, so they have a long-distance relationship. This summer he lived briefly in Katja’s house, but she was not there herself because she made America unsafe with her daughter Sammie from her marriage to Thijs Romer. After the holiday, he flew back to Ibiza, which Katja secretly found ‘quite delicious’, she says in her podcast.

She therefore did not know very well whether she wanted to live with Niek. ‘I’ve been thinking a lot. I have already tried the traditional form of a relationship in every possible way. Get married, live together, have a child. I actually don’t think it’s the ideal shape for me. I need and need time to myself.’ However, Katja, who made no secret of her loose morals when it comes to sex with third parties, believes that monogamy is best for her after all. ‘For me it’s a relationship with one person, but not on each other’s lips all the time.’

“Tomorrow I will meet him again in Barcelona”

Uncertain

In October, the lovebirds were together again in the Netherlands, when they went for a walk with the daughter of Katja and Freek and went for a walk in the forest on the northern Dutch peninsula of Hemmeland by Katja. The fact that 47-year-old Katja is no less than eighteen years older than her new love is part of that, and it is therefore not surprising that she is sometimes quite unsure about her new relationship. She also shows this to Weekend when we talk to her at the premiere of the film Casa Coco, in which she has a role. In any case, she’s happy that she’s got someone again and that she didn’t fall into a black hole after the divorce. “Fortunately, I met someone again,” she says. “I will meet him again tomorrow in Barcelona.” He probably had to go there because of his work, because Niek is in ‘organic management’ in Spain. Katja doesn’t really dare to look into the future. ‘I think it’s very exciting because, well, you don’t know everything, but I’m very happy for him. His family is here now too, which is nice.’

The actress, who once made waves in Good Times, Bad Times, presented Better Late Than Never two years ago and starred in the new Costa! film this year, sometimes worries about the future in terms of growing old with someone. ‘It may never end. My parents are here and they are 75 and 73 years old, they have been together for over 50 years and are still in love with each other. Unfortunately, sometimes there is such a strange idea about love and sexuality among people who are a little older. I don’t need to know details about my parents, but I’m glad things are going well between them. And that even when you are a little older and perhaps lose someone who dies, there is always the opportunity to meet someone. Really important to feel that way. I find that very moving.’

La Schuurman also likes that the main roles in the film are played by Joke Bruijs and Gerard Cox. ‘I think it’s amazing because how many romantic comedies with people that age are there? Little. And I like that, because we are all getting older’. Filming took place on Bonaire in February 2021. ‘My daughter Sammie was also there, who came with a boyfriend because Holland was in lockdown. That lockdown now feels like 600 years ago, thankfully. When we were in it, I thought, will this ever end? And now it already feels like another life. Yes, the little one was there too. Coco was then six months old, now she is already two.’ All the actors were together at a resort. It can be fun. ‘If you’re lucky, but if you’ve got a stupid cast, then you’re there… Shooting is a closed period of about six weeks, and then I think it’s really nice that you’re together like that, you’re really together.’

She already knew some of the actors. »Frederique Spigt has been my friend for a long time, I knew Loes Luca a little, and I got to know Richard Groenendijk there. I would like to call him a friend, even though we haven’t seen each other much since then. I really liked it.’ Now that things are going well in love and work, everything in Katja’s life seems well arranged, but she doesn’t want to go that far: ‘To say that everything is fine is a bit much. But a lot is good.’
