Former addiction guru files complaint against victim of sexual abuse

Former abuse guru and twice-convicted sex offender Keith Bakker (62) has filed a complaint against a young woman for false reporting and libel and slander. Bakker was acquitted by the court last summer of having raped this woman, after a previous sentence by the court. Crime site have seen the report.

In 2021, at the court in Amsterdam, Bakker was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for sexual abuse of a then adult woman, with whom he had a relationship for several years. Bakker and the young woman were together for about 2.5 years (until 2019).

Justice stated that there was rape of Bakker in those years, not by violence, but because he abused a preponderance of power due to age difference and his position as a therapist (‘other facts’).

Eating disorder

This year, however, the Court of Appeal found – unlike the attorney general – not proven that Bakker was guilty of rape due to these special circumstances.

The Court of Appeal has determined that in 2016 Bakker conducted one intervention interview with the victim, who appeared to be suffering from an eating disorder. After that conversation, according to the court, there was no longer a therapist-patient relationship, although the court found that there was an unequal position between Bakker and the young woman, among other things because of the age difference.

The court considered it proven that Bakker had committed sexual assaults during a period of the relationship, because the victim was still a minor during that period. This conclusion is based on the woman’s statement.

Bakker was sentenced to 18 months in prison, which he had already spent plenty of in custody, so he was immediately released in July 2022.

Bakker had disputed before the court that there had been fornication because, according to him, the woman was of legal age when their sexual relationship began. He now states in the report that the victim (among other things) has made a false statement about this.

He says the victim (who was born in 1999) started looking after his children six months later after the counseling session and did administrative work for him. Only when she was just 18 years old did their (secret) relationship start in 2017, after which she briefly moved in with him. Later he supported her and rented her an apartment.

When she cheated on him at one point, he wanted to give up that opportunity and end the relationship. In 2018, at his request, she sent an e-mail to Bakker’s lawyer, in which she explicitly wrote, among other things, that there had never been sex before her 18th birthday.

The fact that she did not declare to the police much later that there was sex before she came of age is, according to Bakker, because she was put under pressure by her father. Bakker claims that, apart from this statement, there is no evidence that there was a sexual relationship between him and the woman when she was a minor. Text or WhatsApp messages, witnesses, emails or other supporting (technical) evidence of this is lacking, he says, while there is such evidence of the period when she was of legal age.

Bakker also talks about libel and slander in the statement because the woman sought publicity with her statement against him in 2019 by telling this story in De Telegraaf.

Five years imprisonment

When Bakker was arrested for this case, he worked on assistance projects for (former) inmates in consultation with the prosecution and correctional facilities. He had already received a sentence.

Bakker struggled with a major drug addiction for a long time at different periods of his life. Eventually, he successfully stayed clean and appeared on several TV shows (pictured above). He also started clinics in 2004 helping drug addicts.

On April 20, 2012, Bakker was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing several patients who were treated by him at his substance abuse clinic. The court determined that in three cases there had been rape because he had abused the power due to the age difference and his position as a therapist. Bakker dropped his appeal and had been free since 2014.

Baker’s report is from November 25, 2022. Police are investigating the report.
